Jack Goulding interview

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007
During our trip to the Fleadh in Tullamore, I met up with Jack Goulding whom was one of the men that was involved in bringing 107b from the Barrow to Robertstown.  You can here him tell his story in our podcast section.  The interview is 15 mins long, so perhaps download it.  (This is an un-edited interview).

From Tullamore to Carlow

Saturday 14th April, 2007.
The barge departed Tullamore on Saturday 14th April having being fitted with a new engine and gearbox.  The skippers onboard were Gerry Gavin and Brian Quinn assisted by Enda and Cahil Buckley.  107b got as far as Rhode bridge on the Grand Canal.  Where she was moored for the night.

Sunday 15th April, 2007.
The barge departed Rhode Bridge at approx. 16:00 (4pm), skippered by Mick Farrell (HBA) assisted by his daughters Katie and Holly Farrell and friends Robert and Eoin O’Reilly from Edenderry.  107b is now moored near Edenderry.

Wednesday 18th April, 2007.
The barge departed Edenderry about 12noon, skippered by Robbie from Dabu, and assisted by Cecil Wilson.  They arrived in Lowtown for about 5pm, where the barge was moored overnight.

Thursday 19th April, 2007.
The barge has departed Lowtown and is now heading for Monasterevin.  107B is now in Monasterevin, and will be heading for Athy early tomorrow morning.  Crewed today by Gerry Gavin and Mick Farrell.

Friday 20th April, 2007.
The barge departed Monasterevin at 09:00hrs heading for Ardreigh just outside Athy in the River Barrow.  This will be the first time 107b has been in the Barrow since she left it in 1969.  The trip was uneventful and went well with no problems with the canal, or the barge to report.  An audio log was made of the trip, and will be available here in the next day or two, when it is edited.   The barge was crewed by Gerry Gavin and Niall Galway.  See the photos of the trip from Monasterevin to Ardreigh  Audio Log of the trip (MP3 16.7Mb)  [Right click link and Save As...]

Saturday 21st April, 2007.
The barge is now in Carlow, where she attended the Grand Canal Boatmas’s Reunion, and she will head to Milford on Sunday, where she will remain for the week.  A new crew will take her to Bagnenalstown (Muine Bheag), where she will be for the May bank holiday weekend.  We listened to an interesting talk about Irish canals by Mike Clarke from the UK.  Crewed by Brian Quinn and Gerry Gavin and others.  Look @ the photos of 107b in CarlowSee 107b on the RTE News (the second last boat on the clip)
